The changing face of the garden in Australia

 

The 20th Century has been a time of great change in the Australian garden. This can be seen in the ways that we think about garden design. The Balinese, Australian native, and lifestyle gardens of today are a far cry from the cottage and productive gardens that were familiar at the start of last century. Yet perhaps the most significant change has been in the ways that we relate to gardens – as places where we interact with nature; where we have established a unique Australian identity through our plant choices, and also as a place where people practice sustainability in a very everyday way.
